A guide to writing systematic reviews of rare disease treatments to generate FAIRcompliant datasets: building a Treatabolome

“Solve-RD – solving the unsolved rare diseases” is a research project funded by the European Commission for five years (2018-2022). It aims to improve the current diagnosis and therapeutic management of rare diseases with a focus on the unsolved rare disease cases.
The Treatabolome looks into ways to improve access to the important information that a particular rare disease has a treatment available. Too often this knowledge can only be discovered after more extensive literature study or expert referral, meaning that for many patients there is a delay before they are put on the optimal therapy.
The paper “A guide to writing systematic reviews of rare disease treatments to generate FAIR-compliant datasets: building a Treatabolome” explains the methodology for writing systematic literature reviews about rare diseases that generate datasets to be included in the Treatabolome knowledge base. The latter will be publicly available and interoperable with clinical decision and treatment support tools. thereby improving rare diseases’ treatments visibility
